Kilinochchi police say they suspect the child who went missing close to a tank in the Ellukadu village has been sold, and investigations have been conducted with this suspicion in mind.

The search operation to find the three-year-old child entered its fourth day on June 24.

Udaya Kumar Yarsika visited the Shakthipuram Lake located 2 kilometres away from her home with her aunt’s son and was sitting at the bank of the lake while her 14-year-old cousin went swimming. She went missing a few minutes later. Although it has been four days since search operations commenced, no information has been received as to what may have happened to the child.

The mother of the child said the Police, Army together with the Navy have been carrying out this search operation for the past four days and that a set of footprints of the child heading towards the forest are being investigated. Police say statements have been recorded from seven persons, including the parent of the missing child.
