UN says one in 122 people around the world have been labelled as refugees. There has been a rise in numbers as a massive figure of eight million is added to the number of refugees around the world, with almost 60 million people exiled by conflict last year.
According to the UN, the number of people forced from their homes by war and persecution is the highest on record. 2014 was a frightening year with 13,9 million people being newly displaced and was the highest recorded number for a single year. Only 126,800 refugees were able to return to their homes which was the fewest in 31 years.
The conflict in Syria has been the single biggest driver of the number when it comes to refugees.
