State Minister of Culture and Arts Nandimithra Ekanayake says that a state-of-the-art security system will be installed at the National Museum in Colombo.
State Minister of Culture and Arts, Nandamithra Ekanayake engaged in an inspection tour of the National Museum in Colombo on Thursday. The minister who toured the museum, later spoke to school children who were visiting the museum.
State Minister of Culture and Arts Nandamithra Ekanayake said that the renovation activities being carried out at present, commenced last August. He said:
Our aim is to somehow complete the renovation activities by the end of this year. But there are certain obstacles that we have to face in this.
He added that compared to the amount of work that had to be done at the start of these renovations, more work has to be done now. This is because further inspections of the buildings carried out subsequent to the commencement of the renovations have revealed that they are in a much more dilapidated state than expected, at the start of the renovations.
He also noted that they have a plan on completing the renovation work within six months. The Minister elaborated:
And in the future, we hope to provide security for the museum using state-of-the-art technology. A Police Unit has been established for the security of the museum, and if more force is needed in the future, steps will be taken to further tighten security at the National Museum.
