Speaking at a press conference convened to elaborate on Cabinet decisions, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratna stated that President Maithripala Sirisena is not prepared to provide former president Mahinda Rajapaksa the prime ministerial candidacy, a National List MP position, or nominations for the elections.
He also noted that the committee appointed by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) was informed by the president in this regard.
Minister Senaratna added that President Sirisena denied the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s requests to enter the parliament through the National List, nominations and prime ministerial candidacy.
When the question was raised as to what will be given for the former president, the Cabinet spokesperson noted that there is nothing left to be given as the people have given Mahinda Rajapaksa everything, starting from MP, minister, Opposition leader, prime minister and eventually president.
He said President Maithripala Sirisena will not take a step back and will move forward through good governance. Minister Rajitha Senaratna went on to say that anyone who favors good governance is welcome to join.
