Minster of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapkshe has stated that the principle of democracy is based on the concept of “Rule of Law.”

He was speaking at the launch of two academic publications in the fields of strategic studies and law at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University on June 17.

The minister added that the norms and principals of democracy, restoration of democracy, upholding of democracy or having a good governance are all are based upon one simple concept “Rule of Law.”  He called for burying the exhaustive knowledge for the meaning of democracy. He said what is important is that justice can’t be sold, denied or delayed and that there is any miscarriage of justice, then there is no rule of law.

The two publications discuss Sri Lanka’s geopolitical influence in the region, and how a small power can have an impact on the national interests and security in the Indian Ocean region.

The publications, namely, “United States-China-India Strategic Triangle in the Indian Ocean Region: Challenges and Opportunities,” and “Sri Lanka Journal of International and Comparative Law” were launched in the presence of Minister Dr. Rajapakshe, who graced the event as the chief guest.
