President Maithripala Sirisena handed over letters of appointment to the new Chief of Defence Staff, new Air Force Commander and Vice Chancellor of the Ocean University on Friday June 15. The position of the Chief of Defence Staff was given to the former Air Force Commander, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunathilake.

Kolitha Gunathilaka joined the Sri Lanka Air Force as a cadet officer in 1980 and in 2014 he served as the country’s 14th Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinhala, who was appointed new Air Force Commander also received his letter of appointment from President Maithripala Sirisena.

Gagan Bulathsinhala received his education from Nalanda College, Colombo, and joined the Sri Lanka Air Force in 1981 as a Cadet Officer.

Thilak Dharmarathne, who is a post-graduate of Oceanography and National Management, received his letter of appointment from President Maithripala Sirisena as the first ever Vice Chancellor of the Ocean University of Sri Lanka.
