The 117th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence Day was held in Colombo on Saturday.
The event was held under the auspices of the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, along with the participation of several dignitaries, including the Ambassador of Philippines in Sri Lanka Vincente Vivencio T.Bandillo.
The minister stated that the friendship between the two countries is built on trust and mutual understanding has allowed the two countries support each other in managing shared challenges in the multi-lateral fora.
He further stated that as a country that has experienced violent terrorism in the past three decades, the country is ready to stand ready with the Philippines in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and based on the mandate given by the people and re-vitalizsation of democracy the government is ambitiously focusing on creating a conducive environment for genuine partnership with the international community
The website of the Consulate of the Republic of Philippines in Colombo was also launched in line with the occasion.
