Andrew Mann, chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy in Sri Lanka, speaking at the 17th American Chamber of Commerce or AMCHAM Sri Lanka Ball on Saturday night, noted that rampant corruption is undermining Sri Lanka’s efforts to achieve sustained economic growth.
He further added that in business, transparency is important. He said transparent public finance and practices can uproot corruption for the benefit of businesses both domestic and and foreign, and the nation as a whole. He said rampant corruption as a whole undermined Sri Lanka’s efforts to achieve sustained expansive economic growth.
He went on to note that he is convinced the increased investor interest in Sri Lanka recently witnessed is just an initial ripple and will soon be followed by a great wave of foreign firms looking to take advantage of all Sri Lanka has to offer.
