Namal Rajapaksa says he is hopeful “that his innocence will be proven in court”

Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department on Friday morning.

The parliamentarian was summoned to the CID to obtain a statement from him over the incident where a personal security guard of MP Namal Rajapaksa entered a meeting attended by President Maithripala Sirisena in Agunakolapelessa, wearing a firearm.

Parliamentarian, Namal Rajapaksa noted that he may have to come to the CID more often under the new good governance and that various allegations were levelled over the recent past but added there is hope his innocence will be proved in court.

He further added that neither him or his father will ever leave the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and that the MPs requested to seek nominations from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. He further noted that nomination papers have been submitted and that it must not be forgotten that Mahinda Rajapaksa still functions an adviser in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
