Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala De Silva raised a question in Parliament on Wednesday, June 11 over a discussion that was said to have been attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera.

Opposition Leader, Nimal Siripala De Silva stated that the media had revealed that a Non-Governmental Organisation from South Africa and a Norwegian Organisation had facilitated the meeting where the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera had held a discussion with the Global Tamil Forum Organisation in London.

He went on to note that the objective of this meeting was to remove the ban imposed on the Tamil Diaspora affiliated with the LTTE, in accordance to the Gazette issued on  March 21m 2014 and also to force the Sri Lankan Government to take steps on war crimes said to have taken place in Sri Lanka as purportedly campaigned for by the Tamil Diaspora.

In addition to this, it is reported that Erik Solheim, the Norwegian peace facilitator had also attended this meeting.

What was discussed at this meeting? Who and what organisations attended this meeting? Had the Minister obtained the approval of Cabinet or the President or the Prime Minister to attend such a meeting? Will the Minister of Foreign Affairs table in Parliament what was discussed at this meeting? If not why?”
