Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov is to visit Sri Lanka on an official tour.
Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Ajith P. Perera stated that this would be the first time in forty years that a Russian Foreign Minister is engaging in an official tour of the country.
He went on to note that he had invited the Russian Foreign Minister to tour the country, when the former visited Russia recently.
He added that during his visit to Russia, the Russian Foreign Minister had closely studied the programme being carried out by the current Sri Lankan government.
He further stated that a number of agreements between the two countries would be signed during the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s tour of Sri Lanka, and that Lavrov would also declare open the new Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka.
