Several officials have spoken out about the no-confidence motion, upcoming elections and the dissolution of parliament.

Minister of Housing and Samurdhi Sajith Premadasa: Through the no-confidence motion gamble, the alienated opposition is attempting to somehow get a hold of ministerial portfolios and now that they are in the opposition, their wives do not have official vehicles. And the people know what they are trying to do. The former ministers in the opposition who are submitting this no-confidence motion are in love with the family corporation and want to protect the family company to get their commissions. They are trying this no-confidence motion gamble to restore the era of theft.

UPFA MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena: A no-confidence motion has been submitted against the government led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the government. If they are not afraid, should bring the no-confidence motion to parliament and hold a debate and call for a vote. He added that the majority of MPs will show where there is no-confidence. If this government cannot continue, dissolve it.

Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake: The government was able to grant concessions alleviating the cost of living without increasing a red cent and if this can be done through a minority government, what can not be done with a majority? The Maithripala-Ranil factor has played a key role in this and Bandula Gunawardena is attempting to come for a debate with me but there is no point to debating with Bandula Gunawardena, who said people could live off 2,500 rupees. He added that Mahinda Rajapaksa was the actual finance minister and invited him for a debate.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa: At times, visits to the temple are being turned into a joke, and those who do not go to the temple, have a very unusual image of those who do and that see through different eyes. He added that he has been going to the temple as far back as he can remember and that he is not going to the temple just because of the loss. He added that he has been going to the temple even during victory and even before that.

Minister of Social Services & Welfare, P. Harrison: The SLFP and all the rogues are banding together to chase Ranil away. They are doing this because they know that if the unity between Ranil Wickremesinghe and Maithripala Sirisena continues, they will never be able to topple the government. He also added that these are the people that want to bring a no-confidence motion, defeat Ranil Wickremesinghe and grab power.

UPFA MP Kumara Welgama:  It was said that since Mahinda was defeated he should stay at home. If that is the case, Ranil Wickremesinghe, who has been defeated 29 times, has nowhere left to go. He went on to question the fact that the PM was not appointed with the peoples vote this time either, and that the SLFP have stated that it will defeat the no-confidence motion and have requested that Nimal Siripala de Silva be appointed as Prime Minister. When he is appointed Prime Minister, the 20th Amendment can be adopted with the majority of MP’s.

Minister of Plantation Industries Lakshman Kiriella: The opposition was against independence being granted and as a result was forced to postpone the appointment of the constitutional council. He went on to add that the new government is working amid such obstacles and that today a no -onfidence motion has been brought against the government. He noted that there is no fear associated with the no-confidence motions in parliament and at this instance, the no-confidence can be faced off successfully.

Leader of Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, MP Dinesh Gunawardena: Everyone is running the opposition together. There is a captain for the cricket team but he is not functioning but it is the team that is batting on. He added that after uniting together, him and his allies are here on the people’s mandate and that they will bring this no-confidence motion to parliament and show the way home and the strength of the people.

Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe: The current government is useless and that the current government is one that this saying it does not want the prime minister. If a no-confidence motion is brought forward, they must be mentally ill. He added that the party has stated that it is ready for not one but 100 no-confidence motions. It must be remembered that in spite of being a minority, those in the government make the decisions.

UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena: The current prime minister does not have any shame. When half of parliament has signed the no-confidence motion, he should have quit and entrusted it over the next day and instead of doing that, his followers and henchmen are saying that signatures have been forged. He added that  the PM’s exact reaction are unclear but they are planning on taking all those in favour of the no-confidence in tomorrow or the day after, on charges of forging documents.
