President Maithripala Sirisena has stated that he will not leave room for the Civil Security Force to be used as a political tool by any political party.

He was speaking at a ceremony to hand over letters of appointment to officials from the Civil Security Department. It was held at the sports ground of the Medirigirya National School.

There are around 45,000 officials currently working at the Civil Security Department; and the Presidential Media Unit noted that starting from today, officials will be provided pensions and will be entitled to promotions in the state service.

The president also added that he is aware that in recent times those in power used these services for political activities and that it is remembered that during the last presidential election the opponents and the former president brought 15,000 of Civil Security Department to attend his first election rally, which took place in Anuradhapura.

He added that it must be specially stated that now having become permanent employees, the department does not have the right to take part in political activities. He promised employees that no political party or politician, their supporters or benefactors will utilise these services, as it is against the rule of law. He said it is also immoral. He concluded saying it must be made clear that all of the department will be free from being involved with any political party and their agendas.
