Opposition MP’s called for a debate on the report of the three member committee appointed to investigate the alleged treasury bond scam, involving the Governor of the Central Bank.
MP Professor G.L. Peiris speaking in Parliament today called on the Speaker to grant approval for a debate on the contents of the three member committee report.
Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella responding to the statement pointed out that the Speaker himself had decided on Wednesday (May 20th) that the report should be submitted to the COPE committee.
However more parliamentarians began to call for a debate in this regard with MPs Bandula Gunawardene, Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Professor Rajiva Wijeysinghe joining the debate.
Tensions flared shortly after Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe took the floor, resulting in a heated exchange between the PM and MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara.
