Former monitoring MP was further remanded until June 3, after he was produced before the Fort Magistrate, Priyantha Liyanage on Wednesday.
The Criminal Investigations Department arrested former MP Sajin De Vass Gunewardene over the misuse of 23 vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat and further remanded the former MP, having rejected a bail application.
The CID noted that that there was information presented to the courts stating that the suspect had repainted two vehicles with no authorisation and had used the vehicles for a private company in which he is a consultant.
They further presented that that one of the vehicles was seized in Rajagiriya while being driven under a forged registration number.
Former Presidential Coordinating Secretary in charge of Divi Neguma programme of the Puttalam district was also further remanded until the third of next month. The CID added that this coordinating secretary had received a vehicle from a private security firm in which MP Sajin De Vass is a consultant and that the two suspects were returned to remand custody, after the CID requested that bail be rejected.
