The Parliament was adjourned till Wednesday following tense situation erupted in the house.

The opposition has requested that the motion filed in Parliament to remove the Governor of the Central Bank to be taken up for debate immediately.

A tense situation erupted after this request was made and Parliament had to be adjourned on two occasions.

Parliament convened at 1 PM on Tuesday and soon afterwards Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena and a group of Opposition MPs requested that the debate in this regard should be held immediately.

Chief Government Whip Lakshman Kiriella responded to this and said that the Governor of the Central Bank cannot be removed in such a manner. A tense situation erupted afterwards and Parliament was adjourned for five minutes.

When Parliament reconvened MP Wimal Weerawansa once again raised a question in this regard and it led to another tense situation.

Parliamentary proceedings were adjourned for the second time today, for 15 minutes.

Incidentally the three member committee report on the controversial treasury bond issue was tabled in Parliament by Minister Lakshaman Kiriella.
