Deputy speaker Chandima Weerakkody has ordered that MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, who is in remand custody, be allowed to attend parliamentary sessions.
He made this statement after opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva highlighted that the remand prison had not taken any steps to allow MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena to attend parliamentary sessions.
The deputy speaker added that no one can stop any parliamentarian from attending sittings when Parliament is in session.
He added that the Secretary General of Parliament would take the necessary steps in this regard.
Meanwhile, MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage added that necessary medical attention has not been provided to the parliamentarian.
Minister of Justice Wijeydasa Rajapakshe responding to the statement said that the necessary steps will be taken on this matter.
