An assistant superintendent of police and a police sergeant of the Presidential Security Division have been remanded over an incident where an army corporal allegedly carried a firearm into a meeting attended by the President, in Angunakolapelessa.
They were placed under remand custody after being produced before the Angunukolapelessa Magistrate’s Court, on the morning of Tuesday, May 19.
The army corporal in this case, who claims that he carried the firearm for the protection of MP Namal Rajapaksa, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department. He was later remanded.
An assistant superintendent of police and a police sergeant were also brought before the court during the court case against the army corporal.
The two officers were brought before court over alleged negligence of their duties.
The Magistrate then remanded the three suspects until June 1. Police say the two officers have already been interdicted.
