Several areas in the Puttalam and Kalutara District have been inundated due to incessant rains. The Meteorological Department recorded the highest rainfall of 133 mm from Norochcholai in Puttalam, over the 24 hour period ending at 8:30 am on Monday (18th May).
According to the Assistant Director at the Disaster Management Center, Pradeep Kodippili, 80 people residing in Mundalama, Sinnapaduwa were severely inconvenienced while families from 70 houses in Kalutara District have been affected by floods.
Furthermore, the Rajanganaya, Deduru Oya and Inginimitiya reservoirs have started to overflow due to persistent rain in the area.
