A 65 year old woman and her 16 year old grand son were wounded in a shooting that took place opposite a residence on the Dewananda road in Uyanwatta, Matara on Saturday (May 16th) morning.

The Police Media Unit stated that both the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Matara Hospital.

Police said that the shooting took place when the shooter had arrived at the residence of the son of the 65 year old injured woman at around 6.30 on Saturday morning on suspicion of his wife having an affair with the 65 year old victim’s son.

Police added that, the suspect has reportedly fled the scene following the shooting.
