The Railway Services Joint Trade Union says the authorities are yet to take measures to fill more than 8 thousand vacancies at the Department of Railways.
The Union’s Secretary, Sampath Rajitha said that a large number of vacancies for the grades of technical officers, driver assistant, carriage inspector, railway timing clerk and several other grades are yet to be filled.
He added that the issue has largely crippled the railway services, specially the technical and maintenance divisions.
Speaking to News 1st, the General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways, Vijaya Samarasinghe said that measures to fill the above vacancies are stalled due to the prevailing administrative protocol difficulties in the Railways Department.
Vijaya Samarasinghe added that the matter would soon be resolved with the help of the Public Services Commission and the Secretary to the Ministry of Transport.
