The Ministry of Environment says that providing compensation for those who have suffered losses to property as result of the Uma Oya multi-purpose project will begin on Monday.
Thereby secretary of the ministry, Nihal Rupasinghe said that they have identified 1500 such families. He went on to note that the Chairperson of the project had allocated a sum of 200 million rupees to provide compensation to those affected by the project. Incidentally this money will be deducted from the contractors of the Uma Oya project.
The Secretary of Ministry of Environment also noted that the delay in paying compensation was because certain approvals were not provided on time.
