Ruling Party members of the Dompe Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) demonstrated opposite the council premises on Thursday (May 14th) against the appointment of Special Commissioners to govern Local Government institutions.
The demonstrating PS members say that if the tenure of a Local Government institution has been finished, the institutions should be dissolved and elections should be held.
UPFA Dompe Pradeshiya Sabha member Millan Jayatilleke said that the whole country will be in darkness when there are no public representatives to operate the local government authorities. He also noted that while the local government institutions were place under the supervision of special commissioners, Parliament was not dissolved in order to make provision for the pension of the Parliamentarians. He added that they are ready for an election and they are not seeking an extension to the tenure.
Ruling Party members of the Dompe Pradeshiya Sabha who took part in the demonstration attended the evening session of the PS, with candles.
