Police Anti-Narcotics Bureau seizes Heroin worth Rs.80m (Watch video)

The Police Anti-Narcotics Bureau has seized a stock of Heroin weighing 8.5 kilogrammes from the Thoduwawa area in Marawila.

The raid was carried out following a tip off received by the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Katunayake Police with regard to drugs that were being smuggled in to Sri Lanka from India via boats.

According to the police, they were able to discover six packets of heroin weighing 6.528 kilogrammes each, hidden in a shrubbery area.

Police stated that upon further investigation, they were able to uncover another two kilogrammes of Heroin hidden in the same area which added up to the total stock weighing 8.528 kilogrammes and was valued at Rs.80 million.

A police officer from the Anti-Narcotis Bureau noted that two suspects have been arrested thus far and are being kept under detention orders for a period of seven days.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that they have identified the suspect behind the large scale drug racket and added that the individual in question allegedly has a number of cases against him relating to Heroin both in SL and India.

He went on to note that investigations are being carried out to apprehend this suspect in the near future.
