Gotabhaya Rajapaksa seeks SC intervention to prevent arrest

Former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa was once again called in to the Commission to investigate allegations of Bribery Or Corruption on Monday, (May 11th). He was called in for questioning relating to several complaints lodged against him.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa who was called in for questioning this morning left the commission this afternoon and returned in the evening to provide a statement.

The former Defense Secretary also filed a Fundamental Rights application  on Monday seeking the intervention of the Supreme Court to prevent his imminent arrest. 44 respondents have been cited in the petition which was compiled by Att-At-law Sanath Wijeywardena. The respondents including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Cabinet of Ministers, The Attorney General and a Deputy Inspector General of the Police.

Even though the petitioner requested that the petition be taken up today it was not brought before the bench as it was not included in the list of cases for the day. The petition is due to be considered on Wednesday.
