Rafaela Orozco Romo, a 47 year old Mexican election candidate who was banned from standing in the local elections protested by crucifying herself on a cross.

She was standing as an independent candidate for the 31 District of Iztapalapa, the poorest borough in Mexico City, in the Federal District Legislative Assembly.

Despite gathering enough signatures to support her application, the National Election Institute prevented her from standing as she had forgotten to submit her expenses.

Following this the politician crucified herself in front of the offices of the National Election Institute in Mexico City.

She was tied to the cross for two hours, meanwhile 40 individuals carrying protest signs rallied along with the woman against the decision.
