Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe states that the present Government will ensure that the armed forces who fought for the country will be given their due place.

The Prime Minister expressed this statement during an event held at Sirkotha today for retired officials of the security forces.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that the army and the war heroes who served under the Rajapaksa regime were deployed for International Humanitarian Missions. The Prime Minister remarked that event US Secretary of State John Kerry made special not of the Sri Lankan Armed forces and requested Sri Lanka to join more UN missions.

Addressing claims that the he betrayed the armed forces, Ranil Wickremesinghe noted that it was the previous regime who betrayed the armed forces as they agreed to an international inquiry into the alleged war crimes without setting up a credible domestic process.

The Prime Minister expressed optimism stating that the situation in this regard changed when President Maithripala Sirisena was elected to power and when he took up the mantle of  Minister of Defence.
