The Magampura Ruhuna Heritage museum was declared open on Friday (May 8th) by President Maithripala Sirsena.  The old District Secretariat of Hambantota which was renovated and transformed in to a museum , comprises of many modern facilities.

President Sirisena speaking at the event noted that the nation’s agenda trumps political agendas. He noted that it is heartening to see Min. Sajith Premadasa, who serves as the Deputy Leader of the UNP, sit on the same stage as Min. Mahinda Amaraweera, who serves as a Deputy Chairman of the SLFp and also as a Deputy secretary of the party. The President explained to the public that this is the example that he wants to present to the nation.

The President remarked that no one wants to split the nation and it is up to the public and politicians to come to a conclusion whether they would squabble over petty political differences or join hands to develop the country.

President Sirisena noted that there are individuals who continue to argue against the merits of having a national unity Government, he notes that however that the real need of the nation is to strengthen the country’s economy and to develop the country after taking examples from other countries.
