Speaking at a meeting on Thursday (May 07th), Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa denied allegations leveled by Minister Mangala Samaraweera that the Rajapaksa family owned assets worth $18 billion.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated the government requested assistance from India and the United States in-order to look into their assets. He remarked that the current foreign exchange reserve of Sri Lanka stands at $5.6billion adding that Minister Mangala claims that the Rajapaksa family is in possession of over 3 times as much money.

Mahinda Rajapaksa went onto state that Sri Lanka suffered a $45 billion loss due to the controversial bond issue and yet no one knows to whose pockets commissions from this transaction went to.  The former president however did note that they had been unable to respond to these allegations effectively through the media as well as social media platforms such as Facebook.
