President Maithripala Sirisena says the new government will take every possible step to strengthen national security.

He made this statement at an event held at the Sir John Kotalawela Defence University.

The event to declare open the Southern Branch of the Sir John Kotalawela Defence University, was held on Tuesday evening.

Speaking at the event, the President said that in all his meetings with foreign heads of state, when he went abroad after being elected, he had talked about the resources of our defence forces.

The President went on to say that all heads of state agreed to do something to improve the training of our forces. He added that just as his government will take every possible step to improve the Kotalawela Defence University, they will also take every possible step to strengthen national security.

President Maithripala Sirisena also presided over an event held at St. John’s College in Nugegoda on Tuesday.

The President presented awards at the event to students who won the art competition held parallel to the 100th anniversary of the College.
