President Sirisena allocates time for meeting with Mahinda Rajapaksa

President Maithripala Sirisena has allocated a time and location to meet former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Issuing a media release, the Presidential Media Unit says that a meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa could take place on Wednesday at the President’s Office in Parliament at 01:30 p.m.

According to the Media Release MPs Kumara Welgama and TB Ekanayake who had visited the President’s House two weeks ago, had emphasised the need for a meeting with the former president.

Later Venerable Muruttettuwe Ananda Thero , Venerable Medagoda Abhayatissa Thero, Venerable Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero and others members of the Maha Sangha had also requested for such a meeting .

The release issued by the Presidential Media Unit adds that the objective of the meeting is to strengthen the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Spokesperson for the SLFP , Dilan Perera said that several SLFP seniors including General Secretary Anura Yapa will attend the meeting.

A communique issued by the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) notes that the leaders of the SLFP which is the major party in the alliance will focus on the future political course of action. The communique bearing the signature of  UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha reads that the objective of the meeting was to the bring together all the political parties in the Alliance ahead of the general election and establish a government.
