A protest was staged on Tuesday morning at the Polathuwadiya junction in Elahera demanding a solution for the threat posed by wild elephants.
Residents belonging to the villages of Kirioya, Atharagallawa and Polathuwadiya of the Elahara Divisional Secretariat have complained of the threat of wild elephants that belong to the Wasgamuwa National Park.
Our correspondent reports that the residents have made several complaints to officials regarding this issue, but have not received any relief. Thus, the residents began a protest at the Polathuwadiya junction at Elehara.
The Dambulla – Mahinganaya main road and the Naula – Mahiyanganaya main roads were blocked as a result of this protest.
The residents vacated the roads after the OIC of the Bakamuna Police arrived on scene and contacted the Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism, Wasantha Senanayake.
Furthermore, a discussion between the Wildlife Department offices and the residents was subsequently held,
