Former Minister Johnston Fernando has been remanded till Wednesday, May 06.

Earlier this afternoon, Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said Johnston Fernando was arrested on charges of irregularities pertaining to the use of state assets.

The Minister was summoned to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division at around 10.15 AM in order to obtain a statement with regard to an alleged irregularity where the former minister had purchased items from Sathosa but had not paid for them.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that after obtaining the statement the FCID  arrested Johnston Fernando.

He also noted that the alleged irregularity is worth 5.2 million rupees.
