Renowned actor Daya Alwis, who was being treated in Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital, after sustaining injuries following a motor accident, has passed away.
Hospital Director Dr. Susitha Senarathna said that Daya Alwis was admitted to hospital ten days ago.
Daya Alwis was born in 1944 in the village of Payagala and studied at the Kaluthara College.
He commenced life as an artist when he travelled to India to study music and worked as a sound mixer for on stage events.
In 1966 Daya Alwis produced his first ever film.
Due to his love for acting and drama he went looking for better horizons in 1966 where he took part in Colomba Sanniya as well as Wasantha Obeysekara’s Walmathwuwo.
After the launch of his career he took part in Madol Duwa, Sarungalaya, Pooja, Maya and several other movies, while being nominated for the National Awards.
He also took part in several televison dramas such as Bodima, and Wedha Hamine.
