Several incidents occurred around the country owing to  inclement weather conditions.

Two spill gates of Rajanganaya Reservoir were opened on Tuesday, April 21, owing to heavy showers in the area. Our correspondent noted that sluice gates were opened by one foot each.

Meanwhile, heavy showers were experienced on April 20 causing the reservoirs of Walasmulla, Kakiobada and Kirama to overflow. As a result, paddy lands in Tangalle and the Tangalle – Weeraketiya road were left inundated.

Irrigation Engineer for the Weeraketiya Provincial Council K.N.S Kumar said that fifty acres of paddy land were left inundated.

The Disaster Management Centre noted that with the inclement weather conditions,  water levels of Kalu River, Aththanagalu Oya and several rivers have increased. Assistant Director of the DMC Pradeep Kodippili warned villagers to be cautious of the rising threats.
