Convener Anti Corruption Activist, Wasantha Samarasinghe, says not even a bird can fly over the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, without the Governor being aware of it, which is what should happen.

Hence, he says, the assumption of the report of the committee investigating the alleged treasury bond scam, that Arjuna Mahendran is not directly responsible, is a farce. The reason this has occurred is that no other governor in the history of the country has cause as much damage to the CBSL than Ajith Nivard Cabral and Arjuna Mahendran. Since the CBSL has been politicised during the Mahinda Rajapaksa’s regime, a Singaporean national became the Governor.

John Exter, the founder of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, noted in his now famous Exter Report, that the Governor should be a man of unquestioned integrity and responsibility.

Investigative Business Journalist Faraz Shauketaly stated that nobody whose integrity was ever questioned, should serve at the CBSL. Unfortunately, Arjuna Mahendran has violated the sanctity of the CBSL by hanging shamelessly to his office even though, he has admitted his mistakes. He should leave immediately.
