Former minister Basil Rajapaksa arrived at the  Katunayake airport on Tuesday April 21st.

The Katunayake airport  duty manager said he arrived from Dubai aboard an Emirates Airlines plane and landed at 1.45 Tuesday afternoon.

Following the end of the presidential election, the former minister left the country to America on January 9.

Speaking to a group of journalists upon his arrival, he said that his sole objective is to provide answers to the charges leveled against him.

A group including parliamentarians.,provincial Councillors, close associates and supporters  were present to receive the former minister at the air port.
MP Basil Rajapaksa speaking to media said that there are usually  shortcomings when Political decisions are taken adding that he has taken responsibility for the defeat in his capacity as a National Organizer and a responsible Minister.

He went onto say that Rajapakse’s have been involved in Politics since 1931, there has not been a single incident of  robbing public property and funds.

When questioned by a journalist as if there is an election in the future from which electorate will he contest? he replied that his priority is to provide answers against allegations of bribery and corruption.

The Financial Crimes Investigations Division on an earlier occasion , submitted to the Kaduwela Magistrates Court that a statement needs to be recorded from Basil Rajapakse based on a transaction that was carried out at the Ministry of Economic Development.

Meanwhile, several buses were seen parked at the vicinity of the Bandaranaike International Airport when the former Minister arrived in the Island today.

Meanwhile, the arrivals terminal at the Airport was closed this afternoon.

The Duty Manager at the Airport said that the terminal was closed due to technical failure.

The Terminal was reopened this afternoon.
