The five MPs who were removed from the SLFP Central Committee say they will take legal action against their eviction. This was stated after MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena received a letter informing him that he too was removed from the SLFP’s Central Committee.
The letter, signed by the president in his capacity as the leader of the SLFP, says that Rohitha Abeygunawardena’s membership was terminated as the former minister did not comply with the decisions taken by the Central Committee.
MPs Bandula Gunawardena, T.B. Ekanayake, S.M. Chandrasena and Salinda Disanayake were previously removed from the SLFP Central Committee.
During a media briefing held on Thursday, MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena stated that steps will be taken after discussing with the five members who were removed.
Speaking at the briefing, MP Bandula Gunawardena stated that the removed MPs have not engaged in an act that goes against the decisions of the SLFP Central Committee or the party and noted that the removal is unjust as they were not given an opportunity to present facts. The MP also noted that legal measures will be taken with regard to the removal.
