The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said that commencing May 1 it will become mandatory that all bakeries have a weighing scale.
They also noted that the decision was made after a string of complaints were made by the consumers on the sale of goods at a price higher than the actual the weight of the goods.
It is intended that this measure will improve confidence and create good relations between the supplier and the consumer.
The CAA added that scales approved by the Measurement Units, Standards and Services Department are the only scales to be maintained by the bakery outlets.
The CAA also pointed out that this move will be gazetted to make it compulsory in the near future.
