The suspect arrested over the murder of a woman in Kotakethana, Kahawatta was ordered to be placed under remand custody until April 24.
The decision was taken by Acting Magistrate of Pelmadulla Chamath Suraweera. The 18-year-old son of the murdered woman was produced before the acting magistrate of Pelmadulla on Saturday as the 48 hour time period granted by court to the Colombo Crimes Division to detain and interrogate the suspect was over.
Police ordered the magistrate to direct the suspect to a Physicist and a report be submitted to the Judicial Medical Officer.
In keeping with the confession made by the suspect to the Police, the Sri Lanka Navy searched the canal in Kotaketahana hoping to find the weapon used for the murder.
Although the Police and the Sri Lanka Navy searched the canal for almost four hours this morning , they were unable to find the murder weapon.
Chandrani Swarnalatha , a mother of three whose murder on April 5, had not led to any accused, was laid to rest two days ago.
When News1st visited the area on Friday, the locals said that they cannot entire believe that statement made that the murdered woman’s own son had killed her.
Sociologists are of the view that this village with many unanswered questions should not be allowed to be isolate – urging that it is a serious social requirement.
