Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa informed Parliament a short while ago that the Supreme court has determined that while the draft 19th Amendment is in line with the constitution and can be passed with a special majority in Parliament. However certain sections of the amendment will require a referendum.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the clauses which require a referendum will be removed from the draft amendment.
