Kahawatta killing: Post-mortem examination reveals cause of death (Watch video)

Police say that the post-mortem examination into the death of a woman in Kotakethana, Kahawatta has revealed that blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of death. The lifeless body was discovered on Monday, not far from her home.

Thirty-nine-year-old Chandrani Swarnalatha , a mother of three was reported missing since dawn on Sunday. Police noted that it was reported that the victim’s husband had not been at home at the time.

It is learnt that her husband was at a funeral in the area and the woman was at home with her 17-year-old son.

After a search operation that was launched, her body was discovered on Monday in a stream in close proximity to her house. Deep lacerations were found on the back of her head and the victim was also sexually assaulted.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera noted in addition to the police officers from Kahawatta investigation the killing; investigations have also been handed over Colombo Crimes Division by the IGP.
