The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says there are 42 Sri Lankans trapped in Yemen amid the escalating conflict.
The Ministry says that the Sri Lankan nationals are currently safe. Houthi rebels have recently occupied towns of Aden and Sanaa, resulting in the escalating crisis in Yemen.
A Saudi-led coalition has been bombing Houthi fighters, who control the capital Sanaa and are trying to advance to the south.
When News1st made inquiries in to the situation they stated that fighting in the Capital City of Sanaa is steadily deteriorating and Sri Lankans living in Yemen are safe.
However, the Indian government has taken measures to evacuate Indian Nationals living in Sanaa and Aden due to the crisis.
The Ministry of Foreign affairs noted that measures have been taken to evacuate Sri Lankan’s living in Yemen with the assistance of India and talks are being held on a diplomatic level.
