Addressing the press briefing on cabinet decisions on Tuesday, Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne expressed views on the Colombo - Fort land issue. Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that the land was already allocated for the Sirasa Media Organisation. Speaking on the issue, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said: During the previous regime, especially the former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, forcefully claimed the ownership of the said land and carried out urban development activities on it, as a means of expressing anger over the Sirasa Media Organisation that reported unbiased news, and brought to light the former regime's shortcomings and corruption. He went on to note that new government came into power to free the clutches of such individuals who forcibly take the law into their hands. He added that Sirasa was the only media institution that stood for them when they were powerless. Power was disrupted across the country when they were to arrive at the premises of this media institution. We will respect their legal rights and give them what they legally own. I contacted the UDA Secretary in this regard. He informed me of the decisions made in this regard and also stated that the land lawfully belongs to Sirasa.
