Fifteen-time Tennis Grand Slam champion Bob Hewitt has been found guilty of raping underage girls by a South African court.

Seventy-five- year-old Australian denied the two charges on rape and third of sexual assault which took place during the 1980s and 1990s. During the period, Hewitt was the tennis coach of the women and young girls in South Africa and during the trial, a woman said she was sexually assaulted by the tennis star when she was twelve-years-old.

Judge Bert Bam, speaking to the High Court in Johannesburg, said that the evidence against Bob Hewitt was “overwhelming and consistent” and added that there are similarities among the three victims’ testimonies which showed that the tennis star’s conduct was calculated.

The tennis star who won nine Grand Slam doubles and six mixed doubles titiles in the 1960s and 70s was remanded  following the guilty verdicts
