The Colombo High Court has permitted the prosecution to amend the charges filed against Gampola Withanage Samantha Kumara, alias Wele Suda.High Court Judge Devika de Livera Tennakoon granted permission for the charges to be amended when the case was taken up on Monday (March 23).

The State Counsel stated in court that 29 of the 57 charges filed against Wele Suda, his wife and cousin, need to be amended. Upon granting permission, the judge postponed hearings to  May 5.

The case has been filed against the three defendants, in connection with their having made Rs.170 million rupees through drug trafficking. The High Court Judge added that the defendants including Wele Suda, be returned to remand custody until the next hearing.

Based on information revealed by the remanded Wele Suda, on  February 10, UPFA MP Duminda Silva, was grilled by the Criminal Investigations Department for more than six hours.Duminda Silva was questioned on matters including money laundering and drug trafficking.

The very next day, the CID again, interrogated Duminda Silva for close to six hours.Duminda Silva is the brother of Rayynor Silva, the owner of Hiru TV.

Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne on March 19, 2015 said that there is a channel which has a major problem and added that he was against it when an individual from this channel committed murder.

Minister Rajitha Senaratne also noted that they will keep talking until Bharatha Lakshman’s murderers are brought to the stocks.
