Police have obtained statements from a total of 37 persons, including students, who were hospitalised after consuming poisoned water from a tank at a school in Elalai, Jaffna.
Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the Chunnakam Police recorded statements from 28 school children and nine more persons.
He added that, police have obtained court approval to forward water samples to the Government Analyst’s Department.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital Dr. Sri Bhavananda Raja said that a group of students have been discharged after initial treatment.
Police found two bottles of pesticide in the school’s water tank. No arrests have been made so far.
