Singer Miley Cyrus has written a letter to New York governor Andrew Cuomo for $4.75 million in the state budget to fund homeless youth.

The singer, whose Happy Hippie Foundation advocates for young people without homes, asked the governor and the leaders of the state’s assembly and senate to back a request by a state senator to allocate the money for 1,000 new beds, which she says are badly needed, citing a severe shortage of beds for the youth in the US.

Miley posted the letter on Instagram for fans to read:

She wrote in Instagram ”As you probably know, 1.6 million kids across the US are homeless, and the problem is especially serious in New York,”

Speaking up so homeless youth in NY can have a place to sleep!!! #makingchange #HappyHippies @happyhippiefdn
