When questions were posed on the committee appointed to investigate the alleged fraud, Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that the people from the business fraternity have made a request to appoint the committee under the directives of the president; citing that the committee members who are lawyers do not have knowledge about accountancy neither do they have a sound knowledge about audit reports.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ajith P. Perera said that there is a fair argument saying that the committee should be comprised of members from not only the legal fraternity but also other sectors. However, the Deputy Minister accepted that there is an issue.
When questioned about the citizenship of the CBSL governor, the Deputy minister said that the governor is a Sri Lankan citizen but admitted that a Singaporean citizen can never hold a dual citizenship.
Minister Rajitha stated that if the governor gave up his Singaporean citizenship, he can become a Sri Lankan citizen. Minister Rajitha was backed by the Foreign Affairs deputy minister stating that the governor has regained his Sri Lankan citizenship.
