Investigations have been launched over alleged irregularities that have been taking place over the purchase of paddy in Mahawa.
Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board, M.B.Dissanayake, speaking to News 1st said that information has come to light that middle-men purchase paddy for a low price from the farmer and re-sell the paddy to the Paddy Marketing Board for the certified price.
A kilogramme of Samba is being purchased for Rs. 50 rupees while a kilogramme of Nadu rice is being purchased for Rs. 45 at the government Stores.
Paddy is being purchased on a large scale at present in the Ampara, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura Districts.
